We were driving through Gunnison early on our road trip and we were looking for a local breakfast place. We arrived around 7:30/8am on a Sunday morning and this place along with another place were the only ones open. It was PACKED with what seemed like with other locals. We got on the waitlist and only had a 10min wait, maybe 15 max. It wasn't bad at all.
The waitress was super friendly and very patient with us since it took us a few minutes to look over the menu. I got some home fry dish that had ham, mushrooms, cheese, and a biscuit. It was delicious. The menu is huge and everything is served all day. I believe the price ranged from $8/$9-$12/$13. Coffee had free refills. Overall, we were very satisfied with our meal and it was fun to be somewhere local.
P.S. we didn't try the cinnamon roll but I saw one come out and it looked amazing! -

Stopped in here for a quick bite to eat before the final trek to Crested Butte. It was a nice little dinner that serves breakfast all day. The service was good and the food came out fast. The portion sizes were also very generous and food was too bad.
Minus one star because it was 10° outside and we had to wait in the cold while a table opened up. They don't have an indoor waiting area. Minus another star because it was a little bit of a squeeze in here; its a very small place.
Trying this place once was good enough for me. I might try somewhere else in town next time I visit. -

Good food but rude guy at the front. Went down to back country cafe, by far the best food and staff in town

Lines out the door at 8:45 on a Sunday made me delay my breakfast here until Monday. The sign on the door says "where the locals eat", and that was certainly true during my visit. I was torn between ordering the huevos rancheros and the breakfast burrito smothered in green chili. There are two options: a vegetarian, and pork option -- the pork green chili was amazing. I ordered the burrito, and it was outstanding. It is large -- I should probably skip lunch today. The service was friendly and efficient. I hope to make it back to Gunnison some summer, and will certainly come back to the W Cafe!

Put frozen potatoes in the oven, call them "cottage fries". Put pork green chili "Stew" on a cold tortilla over eggs and it doesn't move. Serve guac and sour cream in clear plastic "to go" cup with lid and call it good. Bacon good, service friendly not fast. For the 2 of us, $23 for eggs, bacon and "huevos" plus $3 tip and there you have it, no coffees, just waters.
There was no room to stand up and put on our coats, head 'em in move 'em out, "next"!
We will try else where in search of home cooking. Disappointed.
